Benso’s Genoese Pesto is made from freshly picked basil. The basil is crushed in a mortar with garlic, pine nuts, and cashews. Two cheeses - Pecorino (sheep’s milk) and Grana (cow’s milk) - are then added to the crushed basil. Once the mixture is blended, extra virgin olive oil is gently incorporated.

Comme le Pesto, une fois ouvert votre pot de Pistou Génois Benso se conservera au frais avec un filet d’huile d’olive.

Genoese pesto is widely used in Italian cuisine and is most commonly served with pasta. It can also be used to enhance the flavor of a sauce.

As the name suggests, Genoese pesto originated in the city of Genoa in the 19th century.

Benso Genoese Pistou pairs perfectly with:

  • Pasta: after draining the pasta, return it to the pot, add the pistou and a drizzle of olive oil, then serve.
  • Salad dressings: mix olive oil with a tablespoon of pistou (and balsamic vinegar, if desired) in a bowl, then drizzle over your salads.
  • Tomato and mozzarella: slice your tomatoes and mozzarella (buffalo mozzarella is best!), add the pesto-based sauce, and arrange on the plate.
  • Mushrooms: slice button mushrooms over a green salad.
  • Meat and fish,
  • Oven-roasted vegetables (mushrooms, tomatoes, etc.): remove the stems from button mushrooms, fill the caps with pistou, and roast in the oven or on the barbecue; do the same with tomato halves.
  • Fresh goat cheese
